This is where your forest bathing begins — an hour and a half in which nothing is asked of you except to arrive.

Who this is for
If you have never done shinrin-yoku, start here. The route is mostly level, with one short gentle slope at the beginning, and there is no distance target or fitness requirement. Grandparents come. Small children come. People come straight from a sightseeing day in Hakone, still carrying the pace of Tokyo in their shoulders, and leave walking differently.
What we actually do
We meet at Moto-Hakone Port and walk into the forest — slowly. Over the next ninety minutes we might cover less than a kilometre. We stop to notice what the light is doing. We sit. We use simple sensory invitations: what can you hear that you couldn't hear a minute ago? Where the ground is dry, we lie down and look up through the canopy, which is the moment most guests remember.
The forest setting
This gentle route stays in quiet woodland above Moto-Hakone, where the path, shifting light and lake air support a slower pace. We choose each invitation according to the weather, ground conditions and needs of the group.
Practical notes
Comfortable shoes are enough — no hiking boots needed. Bring water and a layer; Hakone's mountain air is cooler than Tokyo's. We provide ground mats. Contact us before booking if you have questions about the terrain or mobility. Sessions run year-round, rain or shine, though on very wet days we adapt the lying-down practice.
Booking is handled by our parent company, Coconuts Hike Japan — always the best available price.
